After 'Ever After' came out, I was enchanted by the style of gown seen in it. Around the same time, Simplicity brought out a pattern that was inspired by it, and I took this opportunity to make a gown to wear to our New Years fancy dress party, and then to the the Medieval Festival here in Adelaide (Australia) the following year.

This was the first gown I made. I used Simplicity 8735. It was very easy to use and to follow. I made the gown out of green velveteen, and edged it in various gold trims. I also put in grommets for the first time, and they were a nightmare. I got the smallest ones, and they threatened to fall out very easily. I never used the small ones again after that.

I also made my partner a matching green velveteen doublet, edged in gold, with a white shirt made of the same fabric as my white sleeves. When we wore it to the Medieval Festival we got a lot of compliments, and posed for photographs. We entered the costume competition and won 'Best Dressed Couple'. We were pleasantly surprised. We won a stay for one night at a cottage in the country. We had a wonderful time there.

I have a page dedicated to the green doublet here.
