I made this back in 1998, and wore it to BOBW 3 and BOBW 4. This is the second costume I've ever made, and even after all this time, I'm still really pleased with how it turned out. In 2005, I am working on a Ranger One costume. The tunic, pants, and shirt all seem to be the same as what Marcus wears. The only difference appears to be the robes.

Jason Carter and I - November 1998

I made this using a pattern for a ladies suit jacket that didn't have a collar. I chose it because it had straight lines and a good base. The one I used has been discontinued, but I found a couple that could work quite well. They are Simplicity 5921 and 7099. What you don't see particularly clearly in the photos above, is that the base of this is simply the suit jacket lengthened. Everything else is an overlay. The top layer was made together, and then attached at the front and around the neckline. The back is attached with a few well placed stiches, but is not sewn completely down. I stiffened the shoulders with pieces of belt base. I'm not sure what it's called exactly, but it's used as the base for fabric covered belts. You can buy it in a pre-cut pack. The contrastic fabric on the sleeves is also an overlay. It went together very easily, once I had my pattern finalised. I've misplaced the other pieces to this costume, so I don't have any pics of it. When I find it, I'll take some photos of it.

When I made this, the only resources that I had to refer to were my copies of the episodes, taped from the television. I didn't even have a computer then. I did it the old fashioned way - watch, pause, sketch. It was very time consuming, but I think I did pretty well, considering. I've put a couple of pictures below, just so you have some idea of what I'm comparing it to. If I find any more pics, I'll put them here.
